all the b/w questions.....
i got into comics in the early 80's during the black and white explosion, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the first comic i remember buying. B/W

and now look at the success of "the walking dead". i love that story. mostly because the hardcover collections come out so quick. Not the greatest artwork, but the story is awesome.

and I agree- I was a fan of elfquest and then there was bone- other examples of fantastic b/w work
